MT2009 New Era - Ironman Mode, the Trial of the Dragon God and the Mount Sohan Update

One of the biggest changes in the server's history is coming to MT2009. The staff have announced the New Era project, centered on an Ironman mode known on the server as the Trial of the Dragon God. The new mode is set to launch on May 30, 2026 at 18:00, and it won't be a separate server or a classic academy. It's part of the main MT2009 world, but with completely different rules.

For many Metin2 private server players, the key question is simple: will this be yet another mode with starter bonuses, or something genuinely aimed at people who enjoy long, demanding progression? According to the information shared by MT2009, Ironman goes the other way. Gameplay will be built around obtaining items on your own, no trading with other players, a restricted ItemShop and consequences for your character dying to monsters.

What is Ironman mode on MT2009?

Ironman mode on MT2009 has been presented as a challenge for players who want to make their way through the server's world without the help of the market, trading or support from other characters. A character taking part in the Trial of the Dragon God has to rely on what it earns in the game itself. That means every weapon, upgrade material, potion and piece of equipment has to come from your own drops, quests or other activities available to that character.

This is a major difference from standard gameplay on a Metin2 private server, where progression often relies heavily on the economy, buying from other players, buffs, alt accounts or the ItemShop. In Ironman, many of those shortcuts are blocked. As a result, progression is meant to be more personal, slower and more dependent on knowing MT2009's mechanics.

The staff stress that the Trial of the Dragon God is not a separate edition of the server. Ironman players exist within MT2009 but are subject to their own restrictions. Once created in this mode, a character remains a Trial participant permanently. It can't be converted into a regular character later.

The key rules of the Trial of the Dragon God

In Ironman mode, players can't trade with other characters or use player shops. Both buying items from the market and selling them to others are blocked. The character also can't party up with other players or receive buffs or boosts from other characters.

There are also significant restrictions on picking up items. An Ironman can't pick up items dropped by other players. Nor can they take items that dropped from monsters they didn't kill themselves, even if those items aren't bound to a specific person. In practice, this is meant to prevent players from bending the rules with help from friends or alt accounts.

The ItemShop is also heavily restricted. A character in the Trial of the Dragon God can't buy most ItemShop items. The exceptions are cosmetic and technical items such as hairstyles, name changes and gender changes. It's a clear signal that the mode is focused on in-game progression rather than an advantage from purchases.

On top of that, a Premium account is required to play an Ironman character. Once it expires, access to that character is locked until Premium is reactivated. The Ironman character's storage isn't shared with other characters on the same account, which further reinforces the idea of solo play.

Death matters - the prestigious Ironman status

One of the most distinctive elements of Ironman mode on MT2009 is the prestige system tied to character death. Players who take on the Trial of the Dragon God will get a blood-red character level color. It will be visible to others and symbolize taking part in the challenge without a single failure.

This status can be lost, however. If the character is killed by a monster, the prestigious level color is lost. Importantly, the Trial is only forfeited through death caused by monsters. Dying in PvP doesn't strip you of Ironman status.

This could have a big impact on playstyle. In standard gameplay, a risky approach to a boss or a Metin stone usually just ends with a trip back to town and another attempt. In Ironman mode, a single mistake against a tougher enemy can mean losing the symbol that builds the character's prestige from the very start. Players will have to be more careful when choosing spots, gear, potions and the moments when they take bigger risks.

A special channel and drop changes

Characters in the Trial of the Dragon God will get access to a special channel where unauthorized PvP is blocked, including between kingdoms. That doesn't mean Ironmen will be completely cut off from the rest of the server, though. According to the presentation, they can also play on the other channels.

The mode also introduces a drop rule. The chance of getting items decreases as the level gap between the character and the enemy grows, but it never drops to zero. The exceptions are bosses and Metin stones, where it drops to a minimum. For players, this means planning progression sensibly and choosing places that still make sense for farming the items they need.

Some crafting recipes will be adjusted for Trial mode. One example given by the staff is crafting Enchant Items, which in the normal model assumes participation in the server economy. For Ironman, the recipe will be modified to fit gameplay without trading.

Rewards for progressing without dying

Ironman mode on MT2009 isn't just about restrictions. The staff have also prepared rewards for reaching specific milestones without a single death. Notably, the rewards are unlocked for the entire account, not just the character taking part in the Trial.

The first milestone is character level 30 and horse level 1. A player who reaches this stage without dying will unlock a shop with exotic hair dyes at the Old Lady. Pink, blue and green colors will be available and can be applied to any hairstyle, including ItemShop ones.

The second milestone is character level 50 and horse level 11. The reward is a special Backflip emote, unlocked for the entire account.

The highest milestone revealed so far is character level 75 and horse level 21. Reaching it without dying grants the player a Black Steed skin for the entire account. It's a purely prestige reward, meant to show that the player made it through a large part of the Ironman journey without losing their status.

The Mount Sohan update on MT2009

New Era isn't just about Ironman. MT2009 has also announced a Mount Sohan update, available from May 18, 2026. This part of the update focuses on expanding PvM content, quests and the faction system.

A new faction arrives on Mount Sohan - the Mining Expedition. It's available to players from level 54. According to the description, its members investigate Black Steel deposits and the history of the plague that struck the area. In practice, players get another reputation path and new activities tied to a specific map.

The update also adds a story questline about the history of the plague on Mount Sohan. The quests will gradually uncover the background of the place and reward players for their progress. This is especially important for those who like developing their character not just by smashing Metin stones and bosses, but also by completing quests.

Weekly boss, faction shop and new rewards

The Old Mine on Mount Sohan will get its first weekly boss for the area. Once a week, players will be able to take on a new enemy, which should add another regular goal to PvM gameplay.

The Mining Expedition will also get its own faction shop. Announced rewards include an item that unlocks the Push-up emote and the Merchant's Pass. The latter has practical value for your character's economy, as it lets you carry up to 10 billion Yang and transfer 100 million Yang in regular trades with other players.

The update also expands content for the Sons of the Desert faction. The highest reputation tier will unlock a new weekly contract - hunting the Giant Turtle. On top of that, MT2009 is announcing new quests at various stages of the game, from tasks for beginners to activities for more advanced characters.

What does New Era mean for MT2009 players?

New Era on MT2009 looks like an update aimed at two groups of players. The first is those looking for a tougher, more self-reliant Ironman-style challenge. The second is players leveling standard characters, who will get new quests, a faction, a weekly boss and rewards tied to Mount Sohan.

The Trial of the Dragon God will probably draw the most interest. A mode with no trading, no help from other characters and none of the classic ItemShop shortcuts may attract players who know MT2009 but want to experience progression from the beginning under more demanding conditions. At the same time, the permanent rules, the consequences of death and the account-wide rewards make Ironman more than just a curiosity - it's a separate progression path within the main server.

For fans of Metin2 private servers, the MT2009 profile in the server ranking is a good place to check the key information about the server before Ironman mode launches. The Ironman mode launch is scheduled for May 30, 2026 at 18:00, while the Mount Sohan update is available earlier, from May 18, 2026. MT2009 is clearly focused on long-term gameplay, and New Era aims to add more risk, prestige and goals to chase.
