How does the Metin2Ranking ranking work?
Transparent rules - no hidden mechanics.
What is the ranking score?
Every server in the ranking gets an automatically calculated score. It determines the position in the list - the higher the score, the higher the place.
The score has two components - ratings given by players and how long the server has been online. Both are combined into a single value.
Player ratings (the main factor)
Not only the average rating matters, but also how many people voted. We use a formula called the Bayesian average, which works like this.
This makes the ranking resistant to manipulation - a few fake ratings barely change anything for a server with hundreds of genuine votes.
- A server without any ratings gets no rating points - only its age counts towards the ranking.
- A server with a single 5★ rating gets a score close to neutral (about 3★) - one review is not enough to be trusted.
- A server with 200 ratings of 5★ gets a score close to 5★ - hundreds of votes are solid verification by the community.
The only effective way to a high position is collecting genuine, positive reviews from real players.
Review verification by the administration
Math is not everything - equally important is that only reviews verified by the site administration go into the formula. Every review with text is checked manually before it is published.
- Account required: only registered users can post reviews - no anonymous votes.
- One review per server: each user can rate a given server only once - duplicates are technically impossible.
- Content moderation: reviews with a comment go to the moderation queue first and are approved only after verification by the administration.
- Editing resets approval: changing a published review sends it back to moderation - verification cannot be bypassed by a later edit.
Only reviews with the "approved" status count towards the ranking. Reviews awaiting moderation and rejected reviews have no effect on the server position.
Server age (a small bonus)
Servers running for a longer time get a small stability bonus. For example, a server running for a year earns only ~0.4 extra points, and a 15-year-old server ~5.5 points.
This bonus does not dominate the ranking - the only way to the top is high player ratings. Age rewards stability, but does not replace it.
The exact formula
This is the complete scoring formula we apply to every server.
Examples
| Server | Votes | Effect on the ranking |
|---|---|---|
| New, 1 rating of 5★ | 1 vote | Low - not enough data |
| New, 200 ratings of 5★ | 200 votes | Very high |
| 1 year old, 50 ratings of 4★ | 50 votes | High + a small age bonus |
| Any, without ratings | 0 votes | Age bonus only, no rating points |
How to improve your server's position?
The only effective way is encouraging players to post genuine reviews. The more positive, approved ratings, the higher the position in the ranking.
Ratings with text go through moderation before publication - we make sure that no fake review or dishonest server distorts the ranking.
